A night away at The White Lodge Hotel in Filey Fantastic Sea View Hotel with the most amazing food

My first thoughts when we were invited to Alan Bennet’s Talking Heads Theme Night at The White Lodge Hotel in Filey were

Yes please!
A kid free night!
What is Talking Head’s all about?

I had heard of it before but wasn’t quite sure it was going to be our cup of tea – I was quite happy to go along and find out though and I wasn’t disappointed!

Kim and James who own and run the White Lodge Hotel were generous, entertaining hosts who went out of their way to make sure we were looked after – as they did with all the guests there.

The food was delicious and although I felt the main could have been just a little bigger this may just be due to the fact that I’m a bit of a piggy and I was really enjoying it! It was a 3 course meal after all.

Talking Heads is an Alan Bennet play that was also on to at some point and is a series of monologues – I’ll be totally honest with you I thought I might be bored but then I was expecting it to be a comedy.

It was very well acted and for the most part very amusing although some of the humour was a little lost on me – possibly because I’d never seen any of it previously.

Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable night and after chatting to Kim and James after the show until the early hours of the morning we were very glad to drag ourselves upstairs to the sea view room that we were staying in for the night.

How this is only a 3 star hotel I’ll never know. The rooms are beautiful and more boutique hotel than sleepy fishing town hotel. The attention to detail shows how much thought was put in to these rooms from the unique wallpaper designed by a local artist to the toiletries that were in keeping with the seaside location.

Now to the most important part of any hotel room – the bed – I do love a comfy bed and I was not disappointed! Words cannot even describe how comfortable this bed was – I’m not ashamed to say that if I could have fit it in my bag…I would have!

Breakfast the next morning was served in the conservatory that had the most beautiful views of the bay.

There was a good selection of juice and cereals and the guy who came to take our breakfast order was lovely. We decided to for go the cooked breakfast and both ordered scrambled eggs – mine with Mackerel and my husband’s with Smoked Haddock which while not usually a breakfast menu staple he really enjoyed. It was a bit too strong for me but again that’s just personal taste.

All in all we had a great night and a wonderful stay and would absolutely return as paying guests and fully intend to do so.

If you haven’t yet visited The White Lodge in Filey then it’s an absolute must! Whether for lunch or an overnight stay you will not be disappointed! Personally I can’t wait to go back and try their Sunday lunch!

I mean, look at this photo! (Credit the fantastic Caroline Elgey White for the stunning picture)

Please note that all opinions are my own and although this was a complimentary visit I have given an honest review of our experience.

  1. Kyla – thank you for kind words. And you hit the nail on the head of what I grapple with….the mun-igenerattolal community of shared values that a church provides. I miss that feel of community and would love for my boys to experience it in some form. So I continue to be open minded about it all, because you never know where life takes you. Many blessing to you!
